   Vishakhapatnam is a district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Vishakhapatnam is famous for its tourist spots and beaches. It is located between the eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal. 
Vishakhapatnam is the headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command. it is one of the four cities in Andhra Pradesh selected under the Smart city Mission.The city is an old shipyard and the only natural harbour on the east coast of India. Vishakhapatnam Port is India's fifth busiest cargo port. Visakhapatnam has been another two name  the "City of Destiny "and the "Jewel of the east coast".



History of Visakhapatnam

Vishakhapatnam is an ancient city. The city is mentioned in ancient texts, such as the Panini and Katayan writings of the 4th century BC.Historically, it was part of Kalinga. In the Middle Ages it was ruled by the vengi and Pallava and the Eastern Ganga dynasty.

According to archaeological data, the city was built by King Kulothunga 1 of the Cholla Empire during the 11th and 12th centuries CE.The Vijayanagar Empire conquered it in the 15th century. Earlier, it was ruled by the Gajapati king of Odisha and by the Chola empire.

From 1689 to 1724, Vishakhapatnam was ruled by the Quth shahis and the Mughal Empire. Later ruled by the Nizam and France. In 1804, the British government won the Battle of Visakhapatnam and ruled India until independence.
